This is a very nice example of one of the last classic Beetle Convertibles produced by Volkswagen. As you may know the new model year cars were typically released for sale in August of the prior year. But after August of 1979 the company continued to make the very last of the classic VW Beetle Convertibles. (The very last Convertible was made in early in January of 1980.) This car here is one of the last 1500 ever made. This is a great example in very nice shape with low miles that runs great.
The interior is in nearly perfect condition as you would expect with such a low mile car. The seats and door panels are in excellent shape. The dash is uncracked. The clock on the left isn't working and there is an '80s looking radio present but no speakers hooked up to it. It looks as if someone replaced the carpet. There is a fun looking VW shift knob between the seats and the car goes through the gears quickly and smoothly. The fuel injection is zippy and with the 4 speed manual transmission and extremely tight turning radius, this is a super fun car to drive.
The tires are in great shape, the brakes stop and feel as they should. The emergency brake works. The steering is smooth and I didn't even detect the typical Super Beetle 50 MPR shake as was more common in the earlier Super Beetles. This convertible has been maintained during the summer months by my Uncle's classic VW Shop J.A.C. Auto for the past 11 years (ever since the car came to Minnesota from California). I can help with shipping Worldwide as I sell classic cars to buyers all over the World on a regular basis. Selling classic cars is all I do (other than buy and collect them lol) so I am very familiar with what it takes to get a car to any driveway in the United States and to any Port in the World.
The exterior of the car has been painted once. The original color is white and there is still original paint inside the car, in the door jams and in the engine bay. The paint looks good from a distance as you can see in the full body photos but the paint isn't smooth as it has what is known as "orange peel". The paint is in good shape it was just laid down poorly when it was sprayed. I have had success in having a detailer color sand a car using 1500 grit paper and then finishing with a clay bar and a buff. But the car looks great as it is and most people are very impressed by its looks.
The floors and wheel wells are excellent as you would expect from a California car. This very solid car came in from California in 2004. The car has been owned by an older retired couple for many years until this fall. The top is in great shape and it's clear the car has been sheltered and babied. The convertible top and headliner are both very nice (just a light cleaning would help them look even more brand new.) There is the smallest imperfection in the driver's seat but the material is still there and could be fixed easily. It's a tiny area but I was sure to include two photos of it in the photo gallery just below this written description. Otherwise the interior and convertible top (and entire car really) are in great shape. There are four cute "Beetle" mats that cover the floor.
This is a car you can jump in and enjoy exactly as it is. It needs nothing to start providing fun for the entire family right away. There are even seat belts in the rear seat. This is as modern as the VW Convertible ever got, so don't miss out on this very rare, low production model. The end of production was VIN 1592043705 and this car is 1592042244 so this is one of the last 1500 made (1461 from the end). For the true collector this is a very historic car that should continue to appreciate in value. But for anyone who appreciates the classic VW Beetle Convertible, this car will provide tons of enjoyment for anyone who owns it.
