This is a nice original 1979 Porsche 911 SC for sale from Sunset Classics. This 911 SC Targa lived its entire life in California until 3 years ago. The car is a nice, clean example and it has only 29,150 original miles. This car has the fewest miles of any Porsche 911 SC I have seen for sale in years.
Usually when writing descriptions for the cars I sell I spend a lot of my time discussing a thorough restoration. But this car appears to be completely original. Due mostly to the low original miles, the tan interior in this black beauty is gorgeous.
In addition to the ultra-low original miles, another strong point on this 911 SC is how perfectly it runs. Nearly $10,000 of mechanical tuning was done in the past two years. A new clutch was installed recently, and all upgrades recommended for a ’79 911 SC have been done. There are several work orders from 2009 in the close-up photo gallery where you can view in detail nearly $10,000 worth of mechanical improvements and maintenance. The close-up photo gallery is located just below this written description.
The Targa top, like most everything else on this 1979 911 SC, is original and in excellent shape. All of the lights work, and the buzzer still goes off when the key is in the ignition and the passenger door is open. I did notice the antenna motor clicks three times after it raises and retracts, but the power antenna goes up when the car starts and it goes down when the car is shut off. There is an alpine CD player in the dash for playing your favorite tunes while cruising around under the open sky.
This 1979 Porsche 911 SC Targa needs nothing to be enjoyed and driven daily. The paint on the passenger side has a bit of texture to it as if it perhaps got hot in the California sun. You have to catch a panel at the right angle to see it, but I tried to capture this in the closeup photo gallery. The paint is reported to be original, and an outside inspection shows no overspray or any signs proving otherwise. There is evidence of some repainting in the driver’s side door jam as there is a bit of overspray on the tags. This could have been just from some minor touch up to cover some paint chipping. Either way, this 911 looks great in its original color combination of black over tan. Other than a few paint imperfections as you would expect on a paint job that is several decades old, the car looks good. A good detail job would really do wonders in making this car “pop”. Other than cleaning, this car looks very nice and is ready to enjoy exactly as is. And who knows, you might really enjoy detailing this classic Porsche in your own driveway.
Please take a moment to go through all of the photos in the two photo galleries below, enjoy the fun test drive videos, and feel free to call with any questions so you can know the exact condition of this 1979 Porsche 911 SC for sale! –John Snell.
