This is a 1974 VW Westfalia Pop Top Camper Bus. I bought this with the intention of restoring it 5 years ago but I have too many projects to get to this any time soon. I had an orange '75 Pop Top year’s back and I loved it! It's probably my favorite color option. I’m sure the next owner will enjoy this Bus just as much once it gets the love and attention it needs.
The long time owner I got it from in 2015 was confident in the engine. He changed the oil before he stored it and he was very proud about how well he maintained it. I have seen these old VWs pop off with a good battery and some fresh gas.
It has sadly sat outside for a long time. I've enjoyed nature's contribution to the original paint but it really could benefit from a total restoration. The body panels are sold new so these restorations are easier than they were years back. Now they are a bit like putting together a puzzle. I've toyed with the idea of just getting it running and driving as it is but it would need to have rust addressed first even for that, most notably under the shifter. The frame rails still have undercoating and original paint. The rear bumper came off moving the Bus but it comes with the Bus.
It's been decades since this last ran and drove. As many of you know the models with the full bed up in the pop top area are the ones to get. This is a complete VW Westfalia Camper Bus with stove and sink and two folding beds. The engine turns freely and it still has the original rev limiting rotor in the distributor. This Bus is about as original as it gets. 1974 had duel carberators from the factory with a metal air cleaner system. It's all there.
