This is a nice, functional 1973 VW Thing for sale that can be used for off road fun without worrying about a bump or a scrape here and there. Things are so much fun to use for off roading, and if you get one that is "too nice" it can take a lot of the fun out of owning one of these unique and rare civilianized military vehicles. This VW Thing starts and runs great. And it will provide lots of fun for the next owner.
This VW Thing has new ball joints (all four so top and bottom), New Tires, Recent Brakes and a very nice interior. The top is good enough to keep most of the weather out, but it does have a seam that has come undone on the driver's side. I always enjoy my Thing with the top down. And the nice thing about these things is they don't have door panels, and the carpet in this one is just laying in there like floor mats, so if it gets wet you can stick it out in the sun with the top down and let it dry. These cars are very versatile and rugged. The windshield folds down making driving through the woods extremely FUN!
The VW Type 181 is modeled after the German Kubelwagen. This particular Thing is made to look like a Kubelwagen in that it has a mount for a spare tire on the hood (I removed it for some of the photos but the mount will come with the car), flat "army green" paint, cross on the door, painted turn signal covers and tin cover stamped with a cross on the front of the car. The body work isn't great but it is functional and overall it looks pretty darn cool. This VW Thing definitely doesn't suffer from the "girly" look that some VW Things have. This one looks tough and ready for anything you want to drive through with it.
Have a look through the Close-Up Photo Gallery to check out the nice interior. Let me know if you have any questions! Thank you for checking out this 1973 VW Thing we have for sale!
