Unrestored! Original Paint, Only 87,790 Original Miles!
We have a very nice 1973 Mercedes Benz 450SL Convertible for sale. This beautiful, gently used Mercedes Benz 450SL is a very original, low mileage car. This classic Mercedes has never been restored or repainted. It comes with its original 2 tops - the matching original paint hard top and the stock convertible soft top.
The body is in very good condition for an original paint car. It has never been in an accident. The floor and chassis are very solid and the car is nearly rust-free. There are a few bubbles in the paint below the 450SL script and there are some scratches on the trunk and a few other minor imperfections throughout. But overall the car is very impressive. All of the cars imperfections are shown in the close-up gallery (a link is just below this description).
The headlights, fog lights and turn signals all work. The blower motor works well as does the original radio. The power antenna was fixed recently but is again not retracting. The antenna will retract by hand if needed for a car wash or if you would like to store the car under a car cover (a car cover comes with the car).
The only thing that is not stock on the car (that we are aware of) is the trigger points in the bottom of the distributor. The trigger points are non electric points that operate the fuel injection timing. There was a problem with these and the most practical solution was to update the trigger points. Since this is a first half of the year 1973 450 SL (Mercedes changed the system for the latter half of '73) the trigger points are very hard to find and very expensive (only in Germany and about $1500.00). So a Mechanic at Alexander's Import Auto's used some trigger points from a latter model and adapted the existing wiring harness to the latter model trigger points. The car has had limited use in two years (which is the reason for the sale) and it is running a bit rough. The owner says it was running well after the distributor points were fixed and he suspects driving the car and putting fresh gas in it will help clear out the system and help it run better.
