1973 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible for sale

This is a beautiful 1973 VW Karmann Ghia Convertible for sale. Karmann Ghia convertibles are my favorite car ever made. This example has been with the same owner for the past 24 years. The owner only put 3000 miles on it during the entire time he has had it! It was garage kept under a car cover. The interior is original and in very good condition for being original. The top even looks original and if it is original it is in remarkable condition for its age. The odometer reads 61,198.

The windshield still has the original VW logo and the condition of the original interior leads me to believe that is probably the original mileage. The owners manual in the glove box shows that the car had 10,286 in 1975. The owner who bought the Ghia in the '80s said he only drove it 3000 miles so 61k would make sense. The engine is the original 1600cc engine. The original air cleaner is in nice shape and the paint in the engine bay and door jams and trunk is original.

This 1973 Karmann Ghia Convertible has a solid floor pan. The car was painted in the 80's and some rust repair was done at that time. The repairs weren't done as we would with a full restoration today, but they sufficed for making a good-looking daily driver. The outer rocker panels were replaced but the inner rockers were ignored. The trunk was patched and not all areas were addressed. But the paint on the car has been on there for decades and it still looks great.

The engine starts the second you hit the key and it runs great. The 1600cc is the largest engine that was ever fitted to a VW Karmann Ghia by Volkswagen. The motor is peppy and it has that great classic Volkswagen sound as you cruise down the road.

The car rides nicely and it steers comfortably and easily. The tires are pretty old and while they have decent tread and the car rides nicely, a new set can be purchased so inexpensively that it would be worth it at some point. The transmission shifts smoothly and easily. Reverse has popped out of gear on but it works again by putting it back into reverse. The hinges on the drivers door are worn but the door opens and closes with almost no effort. The top goes up and down easily once you learn the process. This is the most advanced top and the rear window is made of glass. Putting the top up and down is outlined with photos in the original owners manual. With the top down this is really a treat to drive. Seeing the trees or stars above is priceless.

I have photos showing every inch of this car in the close up photo gallery. The full body gallery is a good representation of how you will view the car after you purchase it (you won't be searching for every imperfection at that point - you'll just enjoy it and love it).
