This is a beautifully restored 1969 Plymouth GTX for sale from Sunset Classics. Certainly there are a few other '69 GTXs out there for sale, but if you are the type of person who insists on owning the very best, this is the car for you. The owner of this desirable and iconic muscle car spent countless laborious hours restoring this car--many of the hours were spent in uncomfortable positions on his back under the car, bent over the engine bay, and crouched inside the car and inside the trunk.
As you can see, the car is even better than new. We can all appreciate the idea of benefiting from someone else’s hard work. Well the work is over, and now you have the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of the years of hard work that went into perfecting this 1969 GTX for sale.
This Plymouth GTX was built at the St. Louis, MO plant in 1969 and shipped to a dealership in North Dakota. The car was heavily undercoated from the factory and that helped protect the original floors and body panels over the years.
The original fender tag translates as follows:
This is a well-optioned GTX. It still has the original 8 ¾ 3:55 Posi-traction rear axle. The rear axle was rebuilt and it now benefits from a new heavy-duty yoke.
The engine was professionally rebuilt in 2010. The engine made 432 horsepower / 428 ft. lbs of torque on the engine dyno on pump gas! You can hear the roar of this powerful beast in the videos below. The engine is not numbers matching but it is a correct date coded 1969 440. This GTX sounds VERY healthy, and even at idle you can feel the urge within this car to go fast.
The automatic transmission was rebuilt at the same time as the engine. The drive shaft and u-joints are new, and as previously mentioned the posi rear axle was also rebuilt.
New rubber seals, body plugs, weather-stripping and new body side moldings perfectly accent the beautiful bronze metallic paint. Even the bottom of the car was painted with the correct organisol black paint. This GTX now has a new windshield and a meticulously installed new black vinyl top. For the restoration the body was stripped down to bare metal, sand-blasted, minor body work was done, and the entire car was then coated in several coats of epoxy primer.
Then hours upon hours of block sanding created the perfectly flat surface for the bronze metallic PPG paint. Next came four coats of clear which was then sanded and buffed for the ultra-smooth finish you see on the car today.
The chrome on this car is spectacular. Every piece of chrome on the entire car was sent out for rechroming. Both bumpers were refinished, and as you can see from the photos and videos, they shine and sparkle beautifully in the sun.
The interior of this car is amazing. If this interior set up doesn’t get your heart racing you may not have fully enjoyed the ‘60s and ‘70s. The entire interior is new. The seat covers, headliner, carpeting, door panels, floor console are all brand new and perfectly installed. The instrument cluster, speedometer and tachometer were sent to Redline Gauges where they were recalibrated and rebuilt.
Really everything you see on this classic Plymouth GTX was rebuilt or replaced. The list of new parts is overwhelming. Just in the engine compartment alone there is a new engine harness, new battery cables, new alternator, starter, voltage regulator, ballast resistor, electronic distributor, plug wires, aluminum radiator, hoses, water pump, etc!! Under the car you will find a new gas tank, and a new 2 ½” H-Pipe exhaust system with 2 ½ stainless steel tips, new gas shocks, a new idler arm and sway bar links, new springs, new brake shoes, and the list goes on and on. There are receipts for the entire restoration that will come with the car.
New 16” American Racing Torque Thrust 2’s aluminum wheels are fitted with 235x60x16” rear tires and 225x60x16” BFG traction master tires are up front.
