The beauty of this Ford Custom Convertible Coupe we have for sale speaks for itself, but beyond the obviously fantastic condition of this 1951 "Shoe Box" Ford convertible is a wonderful story...
This car was purchased new in Southern California from Beverly Hills Ford Co. on July 21st, 1951. The car was purchased by a Mr. Dean Kennedy and documents accompanying the car even show the name of the salesman was Macy. (Mr. Kennedy owned the car all the way through 1996! Even today this is only a 3 owner car.) The original "window sticker" and many other historic documents are still with the car. The car was sold with a list of optional equipment:
Mr. Kennedy treated this car with care and obviously drove it only for pleasure and on special occasions. Today the mileage is believed to be original at 50,450 miles. Much of the interior appears to be original including paint, gages, and perhaps even most of the other interior items. The car was originally silver but it is believed the interior was red as it is today when sold new in 1951. The original red and black top boot comes with the car as does a replacement boot in black.
It appears as if the rockers, fenders, and all other metal on the car is original. I took pictures of the bottoms of the rockers and close ups of the factory spot welds and those photographs are in the close-up photo gallery below. There is also a full-body gallery with more photographs of the car.
The doors have been adjusted since most of the full-body photographs were taken. The close-up gallery shows close ups of the doors after they were adjusted to fit well.
There is also video to enjoy showing many of the unique features of this classic 1951 Ford including the working radio, turn signals, slide-out cylindrical ash trays and more!
