I have a rare early 1960 VW Double Cab for sale. I have owned it since 2010 and it has come a long ways in that time. It is nearly ready for paint, and the next owner will have the opportunity to finish the VW Drop Gate Pickup to the colors and style of their choosing. You can buy a project and spend the asking price of this truck over many months or years, or you can jump ahead to this project and save yourself months or years of work tracking down parts and paying for repairs. You will likely not only save time buying this VW Double Cab project, but you may also save money as well. These restorations can really add up, and it's hard to assess the extent of work needed when buying a rusty project. This VW Double cab could be finished and enjoyed yet this year.
Metal Replaced includes:
2 rear corners
2 complete side panels
2 battery trays
2 inner rockers
front floor
3- lower front repair panels
partial rear floor
door rocker and driver side rocker
lower cargo door inner and outer skin
2 wide lip doglegs
4 outriggers
4 jack points
1 rear cross member
There is a later Double Cab (more common larger tail lights, split front seat, etc) on eBay right now for almost double my asking price. My 1960 Model will not only be worth more than a later version when it's finished, but you could complete this '60 in a style and color of your choosing for less overall investment. It's a win, win with this offering.
Almost everything needed to complete this Bus come with the sale. The project does need a rear bumper, and the rear seat pedestal is the latter version, but included with the sale is an original "stale air" engine correct for the era. This early engine was used for just a short time so they are very rare. Having this with the sale will provide the opportunity to correctly finish this project to museum investment quality if desired.
The original color on this truck was light gray. More common colors were blue and red so the color itself is a rarity on an already rare model. But since this is offered unpainted it can be painted any color(s) in the world. I have seen Double Cabs completed in two tone with deluxe trim similar to the valuable 21 and 23 window Deluxe models. No matter how this is finished, you'll enjoy having a stunning & rare piece of VW history in your garage.
If you have any questions feel free to ask. I have restoration experience and I am happy to answer questions. There is obviously more work to do on this Double Cab (the gates and doors still need some repair). I have several other VW Bus restorations underway so that is the only reason I am parting with this Double Cab. And putting a restoration up for sale before the colors are chosen is always nice for the next owner. (I also have a '66 walk-through 21 Window VW Bus for sale finished in the buyers choice of colors for $145,000). I have other projects of my own that need attention so here is a good opportunity for another VW collector.
Thanks for checking out this exciting and rare VW Double Cab Drop Gate Pickup for sale! -John Snell 612-805-2428
